Update from the Port of Oakland and Port-Wide Activity for Nov. 2 as of 3:30 PM

The Port of Oakland Remains Focused on Everyone’s Safety & Security

Oakland, Calif.– November 2, 2011 – The Port continues to call for calm, respect, and focus on everyone’s safety and security, for our employees, all of those who work in the Port, and everyone participating in today’s actions.

Employees at the Port’s main office near Jack London Square have been sent home as of 3:30 PM. This is to ensure their safety and the flow of traffic in case there are any public actions impacting the immediate area.

The Port is participating in the City’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC), is operating its own EOC, has staff that is on the ground in the harbor area, and is communicating frequently with all of our customers, community, and stakeholders. Our goal is to ensure the flow of prompt and
accurate information, which will help everyone remain safe and secure.

As of 3:30 PM, we understand that some marine terminals are intending to continue operating through the evening and some are not. At any point, this situation may change.

We will continue to provide updates throughout the day and into the evening.

You can find information throughout the day via the Port’s Twitter (portofoakland) and Facebook pages as well as the Port’s homepage: www.portofoakland.com.
