Oakland International Airport holds career day for youngsters

Oakland, Calif. – Apr. 13, 2018: Oakland International Airport is sponsoring “Oakland Aviation Day” for 30 elementary school students from the Oakland Unified School District tomorrow. The day-long camp will explore jobs in the aviation industry.

Students will experience hands on training, classroom lessons, and interactive tours. They will visit Oakland’s Air Traffic Control Tower and board a parked Southwest Airlines plane. Students will get to use instruments from an aviation mechanic’s toolbox provided by the Aviation Institute of Maintenance. Oakland International Airport Airside Supervisor Darron Evans will provide career advice and answer questions about working in an international airport.

“We’re helping the next generation of aviation enthusiasts better understand the airline industry,” said Port of Oakland Director of Social Responsibility Amy Tharpe. “We want these young people to have fun, learn and come away with a greater appreciation for careers in aviation.”
