Port Commissioner
Commissioner Jahmese Myres joined the Oakland Board of Port Commissioners in July 2023. Commissioner Myres (she/her and they/them) is a third generation Californian and resides in East Oakland with her family.
As Campaign Director and Deputy Director at the East Bay Alliance for a Sustainable Economy, Commissioner Myres worked with local community groups, labor unions, faith leaders, and the Port of Oakland to ensure workforce equity on the Port’s Seaport Logistics Complex. Following the passage of the Port’s groundbreaking jobs agreement, she also served as Chair of Stakeholder Working Group to support implementation and monitoring of the policies, including: local hire, fair chance, living wages and stable employment.
Commissioner Myres currently works as Leadership Development Director at Powerswitch Action where they support social justice leaders across the country to make bold change. She previously served on the City of Oakland Planning Commission from 2014-2020. Commissioner Myres holds a Bachelors of Science in Economics from Saint Mary’s College of California and a Masters in Urban and Regional Planning from University of California, Irvine.
