Oakland, Calif. – May 23, 2023: Oakland International Airport will be busy throughout Memorial Day holiday travel period. Approximately 130,000 travelers are expected to pass through the airport for the holiday weekend with Friday, May 26th and Monday, May 29th as the busiest days. Passengers are encouraged to arrive early for their flights. The general recommendation is to arrive two hours prior to departure, but passengers should follow guidelines provided by their airline and register for flight updates using airline apps.
“Amidst what will be a busy Memorial Day travel period, let us all take a moment to remember the heroes who have left us while serving our country,” says Craig Simon, Acting Director of Aviation at the Port of Oakland. “It’s going to be a great summer and we encourage everyone in the Bay Area to Fly OAK First and take advantage of new flights offered by our airlines to some unique and exciting destinations near and far.”
New routes at OAK this summer include:
- Volaris to San Salvador, El Salvador.
- Spirit Airlines to Philadelphia, Dallas-Fort Worth and NYC-Newark.
- Southwest Airlines to New Orleans beginning July 15th and Baltimore/Washington DC beginning on September 5th.
Seasonal service resuming this summer at OAK includes:
- Allegiant Air to Idaho Falls, Missoula, Eugene, and Glacier National Park (Kalispell, Montana). Full schedule information is available at AllegiantAir.com.
- SATA Azores Airlines to Terceira Island, Portugal resumes on June 14th. This exclusive weekly service, which has operated at OAK for more than two decades, is the only flight between the US west coast and the Azores Archipelago.

Passengers are encouraged to download their airline’s mobile application to check in for their flight and enable notifications to receive important updates regarding their itinerary.
