Labor Day travel kicks off at Oakland International Airport

Oakland, Calif. – September 2, 2021: Oakland International Airport (OAK) is prepared for a busy Labor Day weekend as travelers are making end-of-summer trips.

OAK estimates that nearly 130,000 passengers will arrive at and depart from the airport between Thursday, September 2nd, and Monday, September 6th. Friday and Monday will likely be the busiest days during this holiday travel period based on historical trends.

“While traffic levels at the airport remain lower than they were in 2019, OAK anticipates a busy weekend at the airport,” says Bryant L. Francis, Port of Oakland Director of Aviation. “Vaccination rates are increasing, and more flights and nonstop destinations are now available. For those reasons, OAK expects significantly more passengers to come through the airport this weekend as opposed to Labor Day weekend last year.”

Many shops and restaurants are open and ready to serve at OAK. Click here to view what offerings are open now at the airport.

Now is a great time to park at OAK. OAK parking is offering a special $17.50 daily rate for passengers who park for four or more days in the Daily Lot. This is a significant discount on the typical rate of $24 per day. Spaces are available. Click here for more information about parking at OAK.

OAK reminds travelers that face coverings are still required at the airport and on the aircraft. COVID testing is also available for free on-site at the airport for passengers whose destination requires testing. This is particularly applicable to non-vaccinated people traveling to Hawaii or many international destinations that have travel restrictions. Appointments may be made with CityHealth here.
