Port of Oakland receives Deep Roots Award

Oakland, Calif. – June 28, 2018: Oakland’s Chamber of Commerce has awarded the Port of Oakland with the Deep Roots Award. The award honors a local company or individual that has been a major contributor to Oakland.

“It is important for the community to know that the Port is not only making money, but is also giving back,” said Amy Tharpe, Port of Oakland Director of Social Responsibility. “We are creating jobs, the economy is thriving, and the Port staff is out in the community.”

The Port of Oakland operates an international seaport, Oakland International Airport, and 20 miles of waterfront.  It was established in 1927 and annually:

  • Handles 2.5 million cargo containers;
  • Serves more than 13 million air travelers; and
  • Attracts more than 3 million visitors to Jack London Square.
