Port Utilities Services
The Port provides utility services (electrical, gas, water, and sewer service) to Port facilities (tenant-operated and Port-operated facilities) in support of Aviation, Maritime, and Commercial Real Estate operations.
The Port Utilities is a revenue division within the Office of the Chief Operating Officer that operates the Port publicly owned utility system (electrical), and manages the administration of utilities (electrical, gas, water, and sewer). Our division participates in the planning, operation, and upgrading of the Port’s utility systems.
Electricity
For the areas served by the Port as a municipal utility, Port Utilities procures electric power in the wholesale and retail markets, manages customer billing, and ensures the Port complies with applicable rules and regulations. Our division promotes energy efficiency measures, obtains renewable energy for Port utility customers, takes measures to reduce the Port’s greenhouse gas emissions by procuring electricity contracts from low-carbon generators, operating in the Cap & Trade market, in support of the Port’s Zero Emissions initiative.
Natural Gas
The Port provides and sells natural gas on a very limited, pass-through basis from PG&E.
Water & Sewer
The Port provides water distribution and sewer collection infrastructure, through which the water commodity and sewer treatment services are provided by the East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD).
Energy Efficiency Rebate Program
The Port’s energy efficiency rebate program provides Port tenants served by the Port as a municipal utility the opportunity to replace their energy inefficient electric equipment and fixtures. The Port’s energy rebate program can help tenant’s businesses served by the Port as a municipal utility by providing rebates to implement energy saving initiatives in the facility. Many common initiatives for energy saving are included in the rebate programs, thus tenants can take advantage of them to reach environmental and energy goals.
