Oakland, Calif. – June 22, 2017: The Port of Oakland has added block parties, a waterfront community event, to its calendar of more than 55 free public events at Jack London Square. The new summer block parties feature a food theme, beverages and more. The Tacopocalypse block party is Saturday, June 24, Noon to 6 PM. This event is all about creative, taco-inspired dishes, craft local beers, music and eclectic vendors.
Save the date for the Grilled Cheese block party, Saturday, August 19, at the Square. This is a free event to attend with food and beverages for purchase. People-friendly dogs on leash are welcome.
“Jack London Square block parties are adding a new dimension of fun at the Oakland waterfront,” said Port of Oakland Director of Commercial Real Estate Pamela Kershaw. “Whether it’s a celebration of food, movies, recreation or local artisans, there’s something for everyone to enjoy at the Square thanks to the vision of our event organizers and tenants.”
Tonight, Thursday evening after sunset, Waterfront Flicks, sponsored by the Monterey Bay Aquarium, will show the film “Lost Boys” on the Ferry Lawn at the foot of Clay Street next to the dock. Pre-film festivities include small eats, trivia and giveaways for moviegoers who arrive early. Event organizers recommend bringing a blanket for comfort.
Friday night, June 23, is Dancing Under the Stars beginning with a free, West Coast swing dance lesson at 8:30 PM followed by a mixed-music dance party at the foot of Broadway. Each Friday features a different dance style. Beginners to advanced students of all ages are welcome.
Joining the Tacopocalypse block party this Saturday is the Patchwork event where 150 local makers and food artisans display their goods throughout Jack London Square. Sunday finishes off the Oakland waterfront weekend with Farmers Market offering fruits, vegetables, and specialty foods. Please go here to see all of the activities offered.
