Norwegian launches nonstop Oakland-Copenhagen service

Oakland, CA – (March 29, 2017): Oakland International Airport (OAK) and Norwegian announce another expansion from the increasingly popular San Francisco Bay Area airport to a new high-demand destination in Europe. Last evening, Norwegian launched its award-winning Boeing 787 Dreamliner flights from OAK to Copenhagen.

Joining existing service to Oslo and Stockholm, both of which began in May 2014, Copenhagen completes the “triple crown” of service to Scandinavian capitals, all three offered from the Bay Area by Norwegian exclusively at OAK. In May 2016, Norwegian also began flying from Oakland to London’s Gatwick Airport (LGA), and beginning June 7, the airline will commence nonstop service to the Catalonian capital, Barcelona, Spain. Barcelona is one of the largest and most requested unserved destinations in Europe from the Bay Area.

Port of Oakland Aviation Director Bryant L. Francis stated, “The addition of Copenhagen to Norwegian’s Scandinavian service that currently includes Oslo and Stockholm, is a major accomplishment for development of Oakland International. These flights afford important access between the Bay Area and Scandinavia both for business and tourism. Now Oakland International is the sole Bay Area airport with flights to all three.”

Continued U.S. expansion is key to Norwegian’s global strategy, and we’re excited to announce this new route out of Oakland International Airport.,” said Thomas Ramdahl, Norwegian’s Chief Commercial Officer. “We offer Bay Area residents more nonstop European destinations than any other airline, which means more affordable fares coupled with our award-winning onboard service.”

Norwegian’s new flights will operate on Tuesdays and Saturdays using the Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.
