Jack London Square – home to Lady Washington for three-week stay

Oakland, CA – (March 27, 2016): Tall ship Lady Washington begins a three-week stay at Jack London Square Wednesday, March 29. The Oakland waterfront becomes the tall ship’s new home at the foot of Broadway for an extended visit through April 18, and is open to the public.

Those who would like to get a glimpse of sailing history can come aboard the Lady Washington for a small donation and hear from her crew about the early days of moving passengers and cargo across North America’s treacherous seas hundreds of years ago. For the more adventurous, there are opportunities to participate in ticketed sailing outings and simulated battles on the San Francisco Bay during weekends.

The Lady Washington is a replica of a sea-worthy sailing ship reflective of what trade and transportation looked like in the 1700s. Lady Washington is a living reminder of the first American vessel to make landfall on the West Coast of North America in 1788. She has appeared in motion pictures and television shows, including Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Star Trek: Generations, and Once Upon A Time.
