April 4, 2002 TAKE A FREE HARBOR TOUR -- HELP
THE PORT OF OAKLAND CELEBRATE ITS 75TH ANNIVERSARY AND SEE GIANT CRANES
AND MARITIME OPERATIONS
Every year the Port of Oakland offers the public a
rare glimpse of its maritime operations. This year's Annual Harbor Tours
begins on Thursday, May 2nd, 2002 during one of the Port's most exciting
times in its history. Help us celebrate our 75th anniversary and get a
chance to see the giant cranes that were delivered to the Port last October.
The Port of Oakland is the fourth largest and busiest
container port in the country and demand for port services is escalating.
The Port of Oakland is expanding over the next five years to meet that
need. The new cranes are symbolic of this tremendous expansion project.
Each narrated tour includes Port history and the Port's
expansion plans for the future. The tour aboard a Blue and Gold Fleet
takes about ninety (90) minutes and travels through the Oakland inner
harbor.
Individuals and groups of up to 50 are invited to
reserve space aboard the vessels. School groups of 4th graders and above
are welcome to reserve space. Boarding time is 30 minutes prior to departure.
